You know ginger as a spice used in cooking due to its characteristic tangy flavor and as a medicinal herb that treats cough and cold, hampered digestion and inflammation. But do you know that ginger can aid weight loss?
Yes, medical studies have found that ginger can work well together with a healthy diet and workout to help you reach your weight loss goals. When it comes to weight loss with ginger, this herb is to be used along with other ingredients. Earth’s Wisdom today wants to share the information about how you can use ginger for weight loss.
There are compounds named gingerols and shogaols in ginger. These compounds are known to induce many biological phenomena in your body when ginger is consumed.
It has been proven by studies that obesity can cause inflammation and oxidative stress, i.e. the damage caused by free radicals.
Ginger has antioxidant properties that help combat these free radicals and it also has anti-inflammatory properties which can combat inflammation.
Although these properties of ginger don’t directly help lose weight, they do prevent cardiovascular damage and other harmful effects of being overweight when you are trying to bring your weight in a healthy range.
However some other studies propose the idea of ginger helping directly in weight loss. For example, according to one small study, men who ate ginger stayed fuller for longer. Another meta-analysis of studies on ginger’s benefits in weight loss suggests that ginger has a prominent impact on belly fat (waist-to-hip ratio) and body weight.
It has been also found that gingerols induce certain biological reactions in your body. They have an anti-obesity effect that helps food to digest quicker and encourage the body to pass digested food quickly through colon. Studies also suggest that gingerols may maintain your blood sugar to healthy levels. Stabilizing blood sugar can be important in losing weight.
Ginger powder i.e. dried ground ginger contains higher amount of ingredients named shogaols than fresh ginger. These ingredients have anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties.
Consume ginger powder by mixing it into water or take it in a capsule form. You can even sprinkle your food with ginger powder and eat it.
However, remember that consuming ginger powder in its raw form has an overpowering taste and may lead to indigestion.
When ginger is accompanied by lemon, you may get an additional boost to keep your body healthy. Lemon juice may work as a hunger suppressant, besides containing high level of vitamin C.
Adding a dash of lemon juice to ginger tea or any other ginger drink might help you consume more liquids, which in turn may keep you hydrated and feel fuller for longer, potentially helping your weight loss efforts.
Drinking a ginger-and-lemon beverage twice or thrice a day can maximize hydration and suppress hunger.
As such, apple cider vinegar (ACV) has its own weight loss properties. When it’s used together with ginger, it could boost antioxidant and antiglycemic effects of both these ingredients.
Also, ACV brings potent probiotics to the mixture, due to which there is an improvement in your gut health while you try to lose weight.
An easy way to have these two is to mix them together and drink them. Or else, you can prepare ginger tea, let it cool and then add ACV. Too hot water can kill the beneficial bacteria in ACV and the probiotic effect will be destroyed.
Another useful recipe is to add a little honey to brewed ginger tea and add 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and enjoy the drink.
This tea should be taken once a day, in the morning before eating anything else, to get the maximum benefit of ginger and ACV.
Since ginger increases the bile flow from gallbladder, people having gallbladder problems should be careful while eating ginger. There is a debate about whether to use ginger in pregnancy or not. Consult your doctor before consuming it.
Otherwise, all other overweight and obese people may start eating ginger so as to get help for their weight loss efforts. But it’s a good idea to consult your doctor always.
In conclusion, ginger has shown promising results for weight loss due to its metabolism-boosting and appetite-suppressing properties. It can be incorporated into a healthy diet and lifestyle to aid in weight management. However, it is important to note that ginger should not be seen as a miracle solution for weight loss and should be used in conjunction with other healthy habits such as exercise and balanced nutrition. Additionally, individuals with certain medical conditions should consult their healthcare provider before adding ginger to their diet. Overall, incorporating ginger into a well-rounded weight loss plan may provide added benefits and support in achieving weight loss goals.
